Evista Uses Evista alters the cycle of bone formation and breakdown in the body. It reduces loss of bone tissue. Although studies are not complete, Evista appears to work without increasing the risk of breast or uterine cancer. Evista Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives), sharp pain in the legs, swelling of the legs, sudden chest pain, coughing up blood, changes in vision, or unexplained vaginal bleeding. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Evista and talk to your doctor if you experience leg cramps, muscle soreness, weight gain, sweating, hot flashes, or a rash. Evista Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history especially : If you have blood clots, stroke, cancer, increased triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood), or liver disease. Evista should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Before having any surgery, tell your doctor that you are taking Evista. Treatment with Evista may need to be stopped temporarily if you require an extended period of bed rest. Evista Drug interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : cholestyramine (Questran, Prevalite) or colestipol (Colestid), the blood thinner warfarin (Coumadin), or an estrogen or progesterone product such as birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Evista. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Evista Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of an allopurinol overdose may include confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, decreased movement, decreased breathing, tearing eyes, drooling, urinary incontinence, seizures, and death. Evista Notes Do not share Evista with others. Evista Missed Dose If you miss an Evista dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
