Differin Uses

Differin is a compound similar to vitamin A. It helps the skin to renew itself more quickly and therefore reduces pimple and blackhead formation. Differin topical is used to treat acne.

How to Use Differin

Take Differin exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each Dose with a full glass of water. Taking Differin with food may decrease stomach upset. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you.

Differin Side Effects

Stop using Differin topical and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; or hives). You may experience some burning, warmth, stinging, tingling, itching, redness, dryness, peeling, or irritation while you are using Differin topical. If these side effects are excessive, ask your doctor about using Differin every other day or only several days a week. These side effects should decrease after the first few weeks of treatment. If you notice a change in your skin color, contact your doctor.

Differin Precautions

Tell your doctor your medical history, including: Do not use Differin topical on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, or irritated skin. It could make these conditions much worse. Also avoid using Differin topical on wounds or on areas of eczema. Wait until these conditions have healed before using this medication. Differin should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Differin should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Ask your doctor Before breast-feeding a baby. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Differin topical may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when sun exposure is unavoidable. Do not use Differin topical on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, or irritated skin or on open wounds. Avoid using other topical products on the same area at the same time unless directed to do so by your doctor. They may interfere with the effects or absorption of Differin topical. Do not cover the area after applying Differin topical. Doing so could cause too much medicine to be absorbed by your body and could be harmful. Avoid using harsh, abrasive, or irritating cleansers, perfumes, or cosmetics on the area you are treating.

Differin Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : topical products on the treated area, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Differin.

Differin Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, excitation, seizures, and bluish skin color.

Differin Missed Dose

If you miss an Differin dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

Store Differin at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
